Ipswich overcome Bolton 2-0 at Portman Road
IPSWICH TOWN v BOLTON WANDERERS at Portman Road, Saturday, September 16
Ipswich Town condemned Bolton Wanderers to their sixth Championship League defeat of the season at Portman Road, today, with a 2-0 victory.
Goals came from Cole Skuse and David McGoldrick in the 48th and 89th minute.
A cross from the right from Joel Garner evaded raiding full back Myles Kenlock from retrieving the ball as the first attack of the game fizzled out.
Commanding defensive work by Luke Chambers set another attack in motion as Grant Ward made a forward run and shortly after, following neat interplay by David McGoldrink and Garner, Ipswich won their first corner of the match. However, both Bolton goalkeeper Ben Alnwick and Garner were injured from the resulted cross.
Then Bolton made their first attack on goal with a shot from Craig Noone.
In the 26th minute Cole Skuse broke up play in the penalty area as the visitors threatened the Ipswich goal.
And five minutes later a clash of heads between Bolton’s Antonee Robinson and Ipswich’s Tom Adeyemi held up play and a shot by Wanderers’ Filipe Morais bought out a save from Ipswich keeper Bartosz Bialkowski.
Ipswich bought on Bersant Celina for Callum Connolly and in the 48th minute Skuse broke the deadlock as his deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area off Josh Cullen found the back of the net following a cross from the left by McGoldrick.
Gary Nadine received a yellow card from referee following the goal.
Bolton came back into the game in the 57th minute and David Wheater had a great chance to draw level but his shot was blocked by Kenlock.
Four minutes later Reece Burke’s forward pass over the Ipswich defence was hit over the bar by Gary Madine but Ipswich strode upfield and a shot from 25 yards by McGoldrick was knocked round the post by the Bolton goalkeeper.
A dazzling 50-yard run by Celina in the 65th minute ended up with Wheater upending the winger who was booked for the foul.
A cross from the right by Iorfa in the 72nd minute led to a clearance from Alnwick for a corner and then two minutes later good interplay between Garner and McGoldrick set up Celina whose shot was parried for a corner by Alnwick.
In the 80th minute McGodrick was clear on goal but he shot over the bar and during the build up Noone was booked for a foul on Celina for a trip off the ball.
McGoldrick (pictured above) sealed the victory the 89th minute when he won the ball in the penalty area and fired past the Bolton keeper and Skuse then was booked.
