Matrons to walk from West Suffolk Hospital to Newmarket Hospital for charity
Ten senior staff at the West Suffolk Hospital will be getting into their walking shoes in a bid to help raise money for a cause close to their hearts.
For they will be trekking from the hospital in Bury St Edmunds, via Glastonbury Court to Newmarket Hospital, a total of 18 miles, with money raised going towards the My WiSH Every Heart Matters Appeal.
And the group are hoping their walk will bring in over £1,000.
Taking part in the walk on Tuesday, October 3, are Rowan Procter, executive chief nurse; Sinead Collins, clinical business manager; and senior matrons Duane Elmy, Lorraine Weaver-Smith, Sharon Basson, Helen Beard, Mark Manning, Dannielle Elliot, Sharon Farthing and Tracy McCullagh.
The appeal is aiming to raise £500,000 to build a brand new heart unit at the West Suffolk Hospital.
The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is investing £5.2m in developing a state of the art cardiac suite that will provide quicker access to more treatments, but the £500,000 My WiSH is hoping to raise will lead to the whole unit, which is currently fragmented on different floors, being brought together in one purpose-built centre.
“You may now someone who has been affected by heart health issues or perhaps have experience yourself and know the importance of safe, efficient and quality treatment. If you have please support us on our adventure,” said Rowan.
“I think one of the biggest things about the unit is that the local patients can be treated locally for their critical care so the centre can become a one stop shop rather than patients having to go all the way to Papworth Hospital.
The 10 set off at 8am on Tuesday and are hoping to complete the walk by 5pm.
