The South to play at the Apex in Bury St Edmunds
Borne from the ashes of The Beautiful South, The South will perform all their massive hits at The Apex on Thursday, November 30.
Formed in 1988, The Beautiful South had a string of hit singles such as ‘Old Red Eyes Is Back’, ‘Rotterdam’, ‘Don’t Marry Her’, ‘Perfect 10’ and number one single, ‘A Little Time’. After 20 years, 10 studio albums, 34 chart singles and 15 million record sales worldwide, when time was called on The Beautiful South in 2007, not everyone was ready to leave the party.
Singers Dave Hemingway and Alison Wheeler, alongside life-long members Damon Butcher (keys), Gaz Birtles (sax) and Tony Robinson (trumpet) formed a nine-piece band, The South. Now in 2017, and without Dave, Damon or Tony, Gaz Birtles has stepped up to take over the male vocal duties alongside Alison and the pair have recruited some new musicians ….
New keyboard player Andy Price has years of experience playing with Ska legend Laurel Aitken and Happy Mondays’ Bez; new sax player Su Robinson has played with Prince Buster and Uptown Ska Collective; trumpeter Gareth John has worked alongside members of the Happy Mondays, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, The Specials and many more.
Their live show promises to continue to celebrate and perform classic Beautiful South songs in a full band style, alongsidefresh, caustic pop from The South’s debut album ‘Sweet Refrains’. So let’s Carry On… Regardless!
