Sale of books to help boost the My WiSH charity’s Every Heart Matters appeal

With scores of books at her home Kelly Cable decided it was time to clear them out.

So she decided the best way to get rid of them was to put them up for sale with money raised going towards a good cause.

And now the fiction books are helping to boost the My WiSH Charity Every Heart Matters appeal which is aiming to raise £500,000 to help fund building a brand new cardiac centre at the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.

The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is investing £5.2m in developing a state of the art cardiac suite that will provide quicker access to more treatments, but the £500,000 My WiSH Charity is hoping to raise will lead to the whole unit, which is currently fragmented on different floors, being brought together in one purpose-built centre.

Kelly, who is a staff nurse on the hospital’s coronary unit, works closely with the diagnostic unit and helps run a clinic two times a month on the diagnostic unit on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It is an MIBI clinic and carries out myocardial perfusion scans which looks at how blood is travelling around the heart.

Kelly, who has worked on the CCU for almost four years, is a big supporter of the appeal and said the new unit being with them will be of great benefit as they will all be working together.

She said that some of the diagnostic staff have trained for four years so their knowledge is huge and it is great to be able to pull on those skills for the CCU’s patients. Also being so close in the future will mean a better working relationship.

She added: “There are huge benefits to having the diagnostic team join us in the new cardiac suite. They have a wealth of knowledge that is so invaluable to our staff and to know they are working alongside us instead of two floors up is just brilliant”.

So far she has raised over £60 and is hoping to boost that even further over the coming weeks and months.
