Judy and Liza new musical at the Theatre Royal
Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli are still the most loved mother and daughter team in showbiz. And now the two iconic performers are back together again thanks to Judy and Liza, the new musical experience touring the UK, and visiting the Theatre Royal, in Bury St Edmunds, in February.
Fri 9 and Sat 10 Feb.
Set against a background of photographs and movie clips of the two women, this production features performances of all of your favourite hits including Cabaret, Maybe This Time and The Man That Got Away. The audience will be taken on an emotional rollercoaster as you discover the uncanny parallels between some of Judy and Liza’s most iconic songs and their own personal lives, so often blighted with tragedy and loneliness.
West End star Emma Dears once again takes on the role of Liza Minelli, with Helen Sheals as Judy Garland. Emma began her acting career at the age of nine when she toured the UK in the title role of Annie, she was the youngest to have played the role professionally. Later she went on to enjoy a long spell in London’s West End playing Ellen in Miss Saigon and Rizzo in Grease. Emma is also the creator of this show. Helen is well known for her roles as Mrs Wigan in Downton Abbey and Lily Richardson in Coronation Street and has already appeared as Judy Garland in Through the Mill and Judy, Judy, Judy.
Following a successful UK tour this is a chance to hear the sensational stories of the lives of two of the world’s most legendary stars of stage and screen and to enjoy some of the most beautiful and popular songs of the last eighty years. Come and hear the music play as the curtain rises once more on the mother and daughter who really did put the ‘show’ into showbiz.
Judy & Liza is at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds for three performances, from Friday to Saturday, February 9 to 10 (matinee and evening). Tickets are on sale at the Box Office, call 01284 769505 or visit www.theatreroyal.org
