Children wear slippers for a day and raise money for the My WiSH charity

Youngsters put on their slippers for the day and helped to raise money for charity.

A total of 163 children at Woolpit Primary School, aged from four to 11, donated 50p each to put on the footwear in a bid to boost the funds of the My WiSH Charity, which supports the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.

And the teachers were not left out of the plans as they also bought in their various comfy slippers.

The idea for the day came from eight-year-old pupil Alfie Garwood who was treated for appendicitis and was a patient at the hospital’s Rainbow Ward.

He returned to school wearing his slippers and was asked why he was wearing them. He replied saying he was wearing them in hospital and thought it was a good idea to don them in school.

So a day was held when all the pupils could put on the footwear and at the same time raise £66.76 for the charity.

Head teacher Jen Carlyle said: “It was a great idea and the whole school pitched in including the teachers. It was a really chilled out day and so relaxed.”
