Golfers set to boost the My WiSH Charity’s Every Heart Matters appeal

Golfers are set to boost the Every Heart Matters appeal with a series of fundraising intiatives.

Members of the Bury St Edmunds Golf Club have decided to make the campaign their charity of the year.

There are three main events already planned with a Captain’s Weekend on June 2 and 3; a 24-hour marathon on July 6 and 7 and a Captain’s Charity Day on September 21.

It’s hoped up to 250 players will take part in the June event which includes a quiz night and a golf trick shot show

Member Ben Coleman is linking up with Simon Byford, who is the assistant pro, for the 24-hour marathon and they are planning to play 10 rounds of golf with different pairs playing with them. Each pair will pay to partner them with the night golfers paying a premium. There will also be people playing a four ball competition and there will be bets on how many birdies and eagles there are and how many shots in total.

And the Captain’s Charity Day is still being planned but it is being hailed as a “big event” by men’s captain Ray Coleman with the money raised from all three events going to the appeal and also to purchase a second defibrillator for the club which will be situated at the Halfway Hut on the course.

“Hannah and I both have other duties as well but we think our main events will be enjoyable and fun but also important in raising funds for our charity,” said Mr Coleman.

Hannah Clark, the women’s captain, said a Ladies’ Pamper Evening is also being planned and various raffles will also be held during the year to help further boost funds.

“We chose the charity as two members in their early 50s had heart attacks and this is such a fantastic local campaign to get behind,” she said.

The appeal, which is being run by the My WiSH Charity, is aiming to raise £500,000 to help fund building a brand new cardiac centre at the West Suffolk Hospital.

The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is investing £5.2m in developing a state of the art cardiac suite but the £500,000 My WiSH Charity is hoping to raise will lead to the whole unit, which is currently fragmented on different floors, being brought together in one purpose-built centre.
