Stonham Barns Golf Announce Junior Tournament Dates for 2018

The Stonham Barns Junior Golf schedule will include nine events for 2018. The primary aim is to give youngsters the opportunity to experience competitive golf in a relaxed and friendly environment. These junior competitions are open to all youngsters, girls and boys aged between 4 and 15, whatever their standard or ability.
Most of the events are on the last Sunday of each month from March to November and include our main events which are the Stonham Junior Flag Tournament in May, the East Anglian Under 12 Junior Golf Championship in June and the Stonham Barns Players Championship in November. These events will require entry in advance but all the other events the juniors can just turn up on the day any play anytime between 10am and 1pm. There are always loads of prizes for all the different age categories, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12 and Under 15.

Stonham Barns Junior Academy

Stonham Barns Golf has been running a junior programme for all ages since 1997 with weekly coaching sessions and nine junior tournaments each year. They have seen thousands of juniors start their golf here and some have done on to achieve great things with their golf including several England Internationals. However, their main target is to get the youngsters playing golf and enjoying it.

Tony Dobson, PGA Professional, who runs the Junior Academy at Stonham Barns says “Our aim is to encourage more juniors to start playing and enjoying golf.  Over the years we have worked with the Golf Foundation and Suffolk Golf as a Junior Golf Centre to make golf accessible to more youngsters. Now with the number of juniors starting golf declining over the last few years we have been working on new facilities and initiatives to encourage juniors of all ages to come along and have a go at golf. This year we are opening of our Pirate Themed Adventure Golf Putting Course, a Chip n Putt Course,  a StreetGolf Driving Range and we will be organizing a number of Free Junior Open Days throughout the year.

To encourage the youngsters to stay with golf we offer a £5 a month junior academy membership which includes free golf on both the main 9 hole course and the chip n putt course, free Saturday coaching ever week and reduced rates on all our other facilities”.

Stonham Barns Golf has achieved the England Golf RangeMark Accreditation and it’s a Golf Foundation Golf Roots Centre and therefore is an ideal place for the juniors to experience playing golf in a safe friendly environment.
Big HOLE Golf

The Stonham Barns Courses features Big HOLE Golf which is designed to make golf quicker, more fun and less putts. The holes are 8” wide, almost twice as large as a regular golf hole. Stonham Barns was the first course in the UK to move over to having Big HOLE Golf in play all the time. More information on Big HOLE Golf can be found on the website www.bigholegolf.co.uk.
