Funeral directors help to boost the funds for the breast unit at the West Suffolk Hospital
Funeral directors across West Suffolk have helped to boost the funds of the breast unit at the West Suffolk Hospital to the tune of £510.
It has come after they had a gathering at the All Saints Hotel, in Fornham St Genevieve, which was attended by up to 60 people.
They were all funeral directors who use the West Suffolk Crematorium, at Risby, and they came from the Bury St Edmunds, Brandon, Thetford and Newmarket areas of West Suffolk.
Crematorium manager Royna Hill said: “Every year we have a get-together and hold a raffle to raise money for a local charity. The funeral directors were particularly generous this year and we raised £510 in the evening.
“It was agreed to give the money to the My Wish Charity, which supports the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds, and does a great job.
“We asked for this money to be used in the breast cancer unit where My Wish have recently paid for a SentiMag machine which gives breast cancer patients a better and less painful recovery using tiny magnetic beads.
“Each set of these beads costs £200 so we were able to help several ladies with this money.
“And after listening to the work My Wish does we hope to support them more this year.
“One of our funeral directors’ wives suffered from breast cancer a few years ago and it was suggested it was a good cause to support.”
