Bury St Edmunds Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society saddle up for a classic Texan tale, where governors, senators, mayors, and even victorious college football teams frequent Miss Mona’s cosy bordello, The Chicken Ranch.
A rollicking hootenanny of a musical, this Tony award winning production recounts the good times and the demise of a real life whorehouse, known since the 1850’s as one of the better pleasure palaces in all of Texas and is taking place at the Theatre Royal between Tuesday and Saturday, May 1 to 5.
Girls came from all over to work at the ranch and make a little extra cash. However, the town’s Sheriff finds himself in a sticky situation when a crusading, loud-mouthed political opportunist focuses his television cameras, righteous indignation and conservative audience on the institution, exposing The Chicken Ranch and forcing it to shut its doors forever.
Founded in 1902, BSEAODS are an award-winning theatre company based in Bury St Edmunds. This adaptation of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is based off of the original novel by Larry L King and Peter Masterson with music and lyrics by Carol Hall. This is an amateur production by special arrangement with Samuel French Limited.
