Aled Jones, The Apex, Bury St Edmunds, Saturday, May 19
His warmth and personality shone through this concert which marked the second night of the Bury St Edmunds Festival.
Aled was joined by the talented 17-strong Voice Squad who delighted the audience with a range of songs from Joni Mitchell and Elvis Presley through to Stevie Wonder and Radiohead.
But it was the Welsh singer with his keyboard player Simon Long and guitarist Peter Harris who stole the limelight with a host of well known songs and hymns along with those not so well known.
And through the magic of technology … and a great deal of help from the sound engineers … he linked up with his younger self – his baritone voice of today singing with his boy soprano voice of 30 years ago as well as Dame Vera Lynn for a nostalgic rendition of “As Time Goes By”.
Other songs in the near two-hour show included “Make Me A Channel of Your Peace”, “Amazing Grace”, “Danny Boy”, a rousing rendition of “How Great Thou Art” and he came back on stage to sing “You Raise Me Up” for his encore.
