Jazz aficionados out in force at the Athenaeum for Songbook Sunday

Songbook Sundays, Athenaeum, Bury St Edmunds, Sunday, May 20

Jazz aficionados were out in force to hear the wonderful sounds and delightful voice of Jessica Radcliffe and the Chris Ingham Trio as they performed a host of songs from the Billie Holiday Songbook.

The feet were tapping and the bodies were swaying as they rolled out a string of tunes from the American songstress.

It was a feast of entertainment for those attending the lunchtime concert who were able to top up with drinks and food as they relaxed in the ballroom which was set up with tables and chairs and listen to the lilting sounds from the singer and trio.

Jessica is one of London’s most accomplished jazz singers, appearing at Ronnie Scott’s, St James Studio and other top venues.

And she took the rich, lovelorn repertoire made famous by the legendary jazz vocalist putting her own captivating spin on it along with Ingham on piano, Jose Canha on bass and George Double on drums.

It was a delightful event on the third day of the Bury St Edmunds Festival and some of their tunes included “East of The Sun and West of The Moon”, “Cheek to Cheek”, “Body and Soul”, “Blue Moon”, “Come Rain and Come Shine”, “Stormy Weather”, “I Only Have Eyes For You” and “How Deep Is The Ocean”.
