Thousands handed to firms for Accumulator Challenge in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care

The challenge is now on for businesses to use their best entrepreneurial skills to turn a £50 note into as much money for charity as possible.

Firms from across the area have been challenged to put their money-making skills to the test all in the name of a good cause as St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Accumulator Challenge has returned for 2018.

With the firms who have already signed-up to take part gathered at Audi’s Bury St Edmunds showroom for the challenge’s official launch the competition has already begun to heat up.

Having collected their £50 stake money, the 40 businesses taking part now have three months to turn their initial sum into as much as possible for the charity, which supports those across west Suffolk and Thetford with long-term and life-threatening illnesses.

Hospice corporate fundraiser Rachel Card said: “I am so pleased that so many businesses have decided to support the hospice through the Accumulator Challenge this year. The money the challenge raises makes a huge difference to us; it helps us continue to care for those across the community who really need our support. We are so grateful for the effort all of the businesses put in. Good luck to everyone taking part.”

Last year’s challenge raised more than £23,000 for the hospice, and it is hoped the businesses already signed up will be just as competitive.

There will be a top prize awarded to the business which raises the most at a special awards evening in October, plus there will be other accolades up for grabs for those who show their worth throughout the competition.

Rachel added: “Over the years the Accumulator Challenge has included some really great fundraising activities for the hospice. The businesses never fail to disappoint and I am certain that this year will be no exception. I can’t wait to find out a little bit more about what they are planning.”

Although the official launch took place on June 28, it is not too late for businesses to get involved in the challenge.
