Swimmers needed to make a splash for St Nicholas Hospice Care

A charity is on the lookout for volunteers willing to take the plunge for a good cause and take part in the third Swim Serpentine.

Thousands of swimmers are expected to dive into London’s Hyde Park’s lake as part of the open water event on Saturday, September 22, and St Nicholas Hospice Care needs swimmers willing to make a splash and take part in the event while raising funds.

Jenny Smith, the hospice’s events manager, said: “The Swim Serpentine really is a great event to be part of. The atmosphere on the day is brilliant and you get to complete the challenge in the beautiful setting of Hyde Park’s famous Serpentine.

“Being part of Swim Serpentine really is a unique opportunity to take part in a memorable event while helping to raise vital funds which allow the hospice to continue caring for and supporting those in the final chapters of their lives.”

Organised by London Marathon Events, the festival is held in and around the Serpentine, the venue for the open water swimming competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The hospice currently has places for the two-mile swim and all participants will need to complete the challenge in a wetsuit or tow-float and will be released into the water in different start waves throughout the day.

Held for the first time in 2016 the Swim Serpentine started as an email trail following the success of swimming competitions held during the Olympic Games.

Places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis; swimmers will also need to raise a minimum of £300 in sponsorship for the hospice. You have until Sunday, August 19, to let the charity know if you are interested in a place.
