Film star, Michael Sheen, is urging people to cast a vote for their local finalist in the National Lottery Awards 2018, the annual search to find the nation’s favourite Lottery funded projects.
Disabled sailing charity, EAST (East Anglian Sailing Trust), is riding on the crest of a wave and is appealing for votes after reaching the finals of the National Lottery Awards.
EAST is competing in the Best Sport Project category.
The project beat off stiff competition from more than 700 organisations to reach the public voting stage in this year’s National Lottery Awards, which celebrate the inspirational people and projects who do extraordinary things with National Lottery funding.
EAST provides children and adults with disabilities regular sailing opportunities helping to improve their confidence and independence.
Since 1997, EAST has built up a team of more than 100 volunteers and a fleet of 14 boats at its base at the Suffolk Yacht Harbour, based at Levington.
Sheen, who is also a National Lottery Awards ambassador, Michael Sheen, said: “I am immensely proud of the incredible work these National Lottery funded projects deliver day in and day out in our communities throughout the UK.
“Their truly life-changing work is only made possible through the amazing dedication of all the staff and volunteers who run them. My message is simple – these extraordinary finalists need your support, so please get voting!”
The project with the most votes will be crowned the winner and receive a £5,000 cash prize to spend on their project, an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and attend a star-studded glittering awards ceremony to be broadcast on BBC 1 on September 26.
