Power workers go back in time at Anglo-Saxon village

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village received a summer spruce up thanks to a group of power workers.

Volunteers from UK Power Networks helped the West Suffolk charity with a tidy and maintenance of the play area and fencing surrounding the ancient site which dates back to 420 AD.

Gavin Price, project manager with UK Power Networks, based in Potters Bar, said: ”Thanks to UK Power Networks’ ‘donate a day’ scheme, we were able to help West Stow Anglo-Saxon village with some maintenance work after what’s been a busy summer period for them. We were delighted to be able to give something back to the community and ensure this fantastic, historical site continues to be protected for years to come.”

Chris Gregory, heritage officer with St Edmundsbury Borough Council, said: “We were happy to welcome the UK Power Networks team to help with the ongoing maintenance that is required for an ancient site such as this. We are grateful for any help we receive that protects what is one of England’s great archaeological sites.”
