A cycle event that aims to inspire women and girls to get into cycling, will return to the heart of Suffolk to take place in Debenham for its third year on Sunday, September 22.
The Women on Wheels (WOW) ride in Debenham, which encourages families and friends to come together and participate, is open to a wide range of ages from high years old. Participants from either to 16 years old can take part for free but must be accompanied by an adult.
The routes are designed for all abilities and include a 10 mile and 29 mile option. All rides starting from Debenham Sports and Leisure Centre at 10am with refreshments and cakes available on route.
This year, WOW Debenham have teamed up with the Blossom Charity as their charity partner. The charity aims to support women in enterprise, providing assistance in setting up new businesses or in the ongoing challenges of running your own business.
Jodie Burrows, general manager for Debenham Sports and Leisure and Debenham Women on Wheels organiser, said: “We are very proud to be returning for a third year. This year we have made some changes, including our ride distances and most importantly, partnering with the Blossom Charity. We hope to build on the success of the last two years and make this year’s event bigger and better.”
Bridget McIntyre, founder of the Blossom Charity, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Debenham’s Women on Wheels event. Being charity partner means a lot to us and allows us to not only raise funds for the organisation, but also spread our message farther and wider.”
Suffolk’s most active county programme is supporting local towns and villages to develop WoW rides in their communities. With the aim of getting more women and girls cycling on a regular basis, making a positive contribution to Suffolk becoming the most active county in England.
Councillor James Reeder, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for health, said: “It is great to see Debenham’s Women on Wheels event establish itself as part of the annual calendar of events for WOW. This is a great opportunity for daughters, mothers, grandmothers and friends to come together and get on their bikes.“
