Two care homes join forces to raise over £1,200 for Alzheimer’s charity

A team of care staff and residents from Hillcroft House care home in
Stowmarket and Uvedale Hall residential home in Needham Market are
celebrating after raising £1,200 for the Alzheimer’s
Society.

The homes hosted their very own ‘Memory Walk’ to raise money for the charity on Saturday, September 22. In total 32 people from the homes completed the walk, which started at Hillcroft House, taking in the local area, before continuing to Uvedale Hall some four miles away.

Members of the public joined along the way and through donations collected during the walk and fundraising before and after the event, more than £1,200 has been raised so far for the charity, which works to raise awareness of dementia and funds for vital research.

Manager of Hillcroft House Amanda Atkins said: “I could not be
prouder of our staff, residents and relatives who came together for our
memory walk.  It was such a success because of the positivity and enthusiasm of everyone involved.

“We were lucky to have a bright and dry day for the walk, which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful areas surrounding our home, including Needham Lake. All along the way we received smiles and support from local people who were keen to hear about what we were doing.

“Donations have been flooding in and we have far surpassed the fundraising target we had set ourselves, so we are thrilled.  This is a cause that is so dear to us at Hillcroft House and Uvedale Hall.  Many of our residents live with dementia so we see first-hand just how challenging their lives can be, and we want to do all we can to help the Alzheimer’s Society and its wonderful work. ”
