Tord Gustavsen and his trio at the Apex later this month

Norwegian pianist and composer Tord Gustavsen is returning to The Apex with his trio on October 29.

He has released seven critically acclaimed albums with his trio and extended ensemble.

Before starting his solo career, he had already been an important part of the Norwegian jazz scene for several years. Tord’s music continues to evolve, with memorable melodies, subtle grooves and musical space with gentleness and depth. His way of blending jazz history with Nordic reflective moods and lyrical beauty, brings an intriguing voice on today’s music scene.

His latest album sees him return to his classic piano trio format, embracing his concept of full-sounding ‘Nordic Blues’, along with harmonic landscapes and an overall meditative feel.

The album features seven of Tord’s original compositions in dialogue with ancient Scandinavian hymns and three striking re-workings of J. S. Bach Chorales.

Tord will be joined by two of the most intriguing players on the vibrant and eclectic Scandinavian jazz scene – his long-standing musical partner Jarle Vespestad on drums and one of Norway’s most sought after bass players, Sigurd Hole.

Tord Gustavsen Trio play the Apex, on Monday, October 29.
