Red Gables, in Stowmarket, held a Volunteer Day in their Redwoods Centre with 25 charitable organisations attending, hoping to encourage new volunteers to sign up.
Organisations included West Suffolk Sight, Suffolk Family Carers, Home-Start, Suffolk Wildlife Trust, The Befriending Scheme, Cancer Research Shop, BSEVC, Museum of East Anglian Life, St Elizabeth Hospice, Suffolk Axis, and many more.
BSEVC who provide Community Transport services have taken on a new volunteer driver. Suffolk Axis also engaged a volunteer for their ‘Drop In’ Sessions and West Suffolk Sight are delighted to have two new volunteers signed up.
Martyn Burnside, Red Gables manager, said: “Other organisations are telling us that they have been talking to a good number of potential volunteers as well. We were delighted with the success of the event and now plan to organise this as an annual event”.
Nearly 70 people came along throughout the day, enjoying light refreshments whilst visiting and talking to the organisations about their work and the volunteering opportunities available.
Stowmarket Town Mayor, Linda Baxter, was amongst the first visitors to come through the door and she spent some time talking with the organisations present and visitors as well.
The aim of the event was to encourage more people into volunteering and to show the wide variety of volunteering opportunities that are available in Stowmarket and the local area. The whole event went very well and good feedback was received from the organisations and visitors alike.
