Woolpit Ladies 2nd XI were the only team from the club to win a game at the weekend beating Hadleigh Ladies 1st XI by 28 runs to make it their fourth win of the season.
Ellie Costin and Millie Gale opened the batting with a good start with Costin reaching her 30 at 10 overs. Gale then proceeded to reach her 30 in the 13th over and Jess Board then struck some lusty blows to retire at the start of the 19th over.
In reply the bowling was very tight with Hadleigh reaching 28 off 5 overs before Maddie Walsh breached Stenning’s (10) defences and hit the top of middle stump.
Another partnership built but the girls stuck at the task, bowling and fielding well, supporting each other all the time.
Evans reached her 30* for Hadleigh in the 14th over before good fielding from Costin and Walsh resulted in the run out of Clark (11). The final over saw Lily Fisher return and two direct hit run outs followed.
Firstly, Costin running out Elliott (8) and then Fisher calmly collecting the ball after bowling it and throwing down Levitt’s (0) stumps.
Meanwhile the 1st XI recorded their second defeat of the season at the hands of Hadleigh 1st XI by 41 runs.
Woolpit had their opponents at 33 for 2 from the first 10 overs and further economic bowling led to Hadleigh reaching 117 for 4 from 30 overs before they accelerated in the final quarter of their innings.
Josh Davey top scored with 52 and some big hitting from Piddington towards the end led to a final total of 189 for 6 from their allotted 40 overs. Pick of the Woolpit bowlers was Jackson with 2 for 17.
In reply, Woolpit made a solid start and reached 48 before skipper Parker was out caught and bowled to Maunze.
Northcote continued to keep the score ticking over but unfortunately lost his partners in fairly regular succession. Only Tom Whiteman, from the remaining batsmen reached double figures, allowing Hadleigh to tighten their grip.
When Northcote was out for 76 the wind was taken out of the Woolpit chase and the end was inevitable. When Wells was out in the last over Woolpit were all out for 148 giving their hosts victory by 41 runs.
Maunze was the pick of the Hadleigh bowlers finishing with figures of 5 for 25.
The 2nd XI and the 4th XI both had their games cancelled due to the weather, so they take six points each and the 3rd XI lost to Dunmow 2nd XI by 4 wickets.
