A 25-year-old man has been charged following a serious assault in Bury St Edmunds.
Samuel Ryder, of the town’s Firtree Close, has been charged with malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and for possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Police were called shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, October 16, following reports that a male had assaulted another male with a hammer in Cornhill.
The victim – a man aged in his 20s – was taken to West Suffolk Hospital after sustaining injuries that were not deemed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Ryder was arrested a short time later and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned.
He appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Friday, Octobe 18r, and is next due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, November 15.
