Scottish folk scene quartet to appear at The Apex

Fara brings together four leading musicians at the forefront of today’s Scottish folk scene – Jennifer Austin, Kristan Harvey, Jeana Leslie and Catriona Price – whose three fiddles and a piano produce a sound rooted strongly in their upbringing among the music of Orkney.

Following their nomination for Up and Coming Act of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2015 and the success of their debut album “Cross The Line” in 2016, they were nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards’ Horizon Award in 2017.

The four contrasting personalities and individual musical voices in Fara, make for a colourful melting pot – with each member bringing a different musical dish to the table. But the strong Orkney fiddle tradition that the four women grew up on is at the heart of each of their musical characters.

Fara are touring the UK with material from their second album, “Times from Times Fall” and they will be appearing at The Apex later this month.

Comprised of self-penned songs and instrumental tracks “Times from Times Fall” celebrates the community which inspired them to become musicians, combining the unique Orkney fiddle tradition with contemporary and original songs and tunes.

With vibrant arrangements full of stunning vocals, rich harmonies, energetic fiddle playing and driving piano, seeing Fara live is an exciting experience.

Fara will be at The Apex, on Wednesday, October 30, at 7.30pm, see www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758000 for more information or to book tickets.
