Special accessible performances to be held at Theatre Royal

A series of accessible performances are to be held at the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds during the Spring season, including some updates to the access options of the annual pantomime.

The theatre is now seeking input from groups who would benefit from the shows to help inform and shape the provisions going forward.

Theatre Royal is committed to providing accessible options to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy great shows and the team is looking to hear from groups who would benefit from these provisions and with enough interest will schedule a performance for any production that would be desirable.

So far, the confirmed accessible performances are: Shirley Valentine, audio described and captioned – Saturday, February 15, at 3pm (optional touch tour starts at 2pm); Dead Good – dialogue free, accessible to deaf audiences without the need for a signer or captioning – Tuesday, March 3, at 7.30pm; Quality Street – audio described and captioned – Saturday, March 14 Mar, at 3pm (optional touch tour starts at 2pm); The Glee Club – audio described and captioned – Saturday, April 25, at 3pm (optional touch tour starts at 2pm); and Small Worlds – dialogue free, accessible to deaf audiences without the need for a signer or captioning – Thursday, May 28, at 11am, 1.30pm, 4pm and 6.30pm.

Following customer feedback, the access provisions for the annual pantomime have been increased too. Performances will be scheduled again but for the first time there will also be an audio described and captioned performance.

The pantomime accessible performances are as follows: interpreted performance – Wednesday, December 9 Dec, at 7pm; relaxed performances – Thursday, January 7, at 7pm, and Friday, January 8, at 10.30am; and audio described and captioned – Saturday, January 9, at 11am (touch tour starts at 10am).
