Woolpit Cricket Club ready for the start of the new season

Woolpit Cricket Club is looking towards the start of the 2020 season with a host of matches and activities planned.

The first social event of the calendar is a Sports Quiz, which is on Saturday, March 14, at 7.30pm.

There is a membership signing, which is open to all existing and prospective members, on Saturday, March 21, from 10am to noon, for all ages and abilities. There will be weekly training for children and adults alike with sessions being led by qualified ECB coaches.

The 2020 playing season commences on Saturday, April 11, with pre-season friendlies at home but the biggest game that weekend is the Suffolk Men’s 1st XI match against Essex 2nd XI on Sunday, April 12, at 10am. There are then games every weekend, which sees a wide variety of Woolpit teams taking to the field, from the under 9s up to the 1st team. The ground will host several Suffolk games, including one on Sunday, June 28, where they play against Cheshire in the KO competition.

A revamped and extended Cricket Week commences on Friday, August 21, and runs through to Monday, August 31, with more detailed information being released nearer the time through the clubs social media sites and the club website.

On Saturday, August 29, the club is hosting a Ladies Lunch with a Prosecco reception and various stalls plus the 1st XI playing at home. On Sunday, August 30, “The Very Pet Shop Boys” will be playing a gig in the evening with support disco.
