Man arrested in connection with theft of a dove from the Abbey Gardens

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the theft of a dove from an aviary in the Abbey Garden, in Bury St Edmunds.

On Thursday, March 12, at about 4.30pm a door to the aviary was forced open and a white wire bird cage, about 2ft x 2ft was taken. A white dove was then placed into the bird cage and removed.

The man, who comes from Bury St Edmunds, was arrested by police on Sunday, April 5, in connection with a separate theft and following a search at a property officers located the bird safe and well. The man will face no further police action at this time regarding the theft of the bird.

He has been bailed to return to police on April 23 in connection with two thefts, a burglary and possession of a bladed item.

The dove has now been returned to Abbey Gardens.
