Officials at the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds have announced that their “The Show Will Go On” appeal, which is aimed at raising £50,000 to begin preparations to re-open the iconic playhouse has already reached £19,000 in just six day.
It comes as Dame Judi Dench has offered her support for the campaign.
She said: “Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is an absolute gem and it must be preserved for generations to come – a magical place with its historic auditorium and rich heritage – please stand with us and support this emergency appeal if you can.”
Dame Judi was a Patron of the Restoration Appeal between 2005 and 2007, during which her love and support for the theatre helped us to raise money for the highly successful capital campaign.
Dame Judi performed in the 2005 “Restoration Gala” with Sir Ian McKellen and Timothy West – she and Sir Ian performed the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet together as part of an unforgettable evening in Bury St Edmunds.
Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is appealing to people to consider donating to their re-opening appeal to help support them through the challenging months ahead and keep Bury St Edmunds’ Theatre Royal for generations to enjoy and love.
Donations can be made via the website www.theatreroyal.org
