Two men arrested in connection with midnight robbery at home of woman in her 70s

Police have arrested two further men in connection with a midnight robbery at the home of a woman in her 70s who was disturbed while asleep.

The incident took place in Nether Road, Cavendish, during the early hours of Thursday, April 16.

Three men entered the property just after midnight. The woman occupant was asleep in her bedroom when she was awoken by a man holding his hands firmly over her mouth and demanding property, while the two other men searched the home. After a short time, the victim was able to scream for help, alerting a neighbour who came to assist and raise the alarm. All three men fled the scene.

An untidy search of the property had taken place and an amount of cash and jewellery had been stolen.

A 42-year-old man has already been charged in connection with the robbery. Suffolk detectives directed Metropolitan Police officers to an address in Ilford on Wednesday, April 22, where a 42-year-old man was located and arrested in connection with the robbery. He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned by officers.

Sammy Okat-Uma, 42, of New North Road, Ilford, Essex, was subsequently charged with robbery and remanded into custody. He is next due to appear before Ipswich Crown Court on July 13.

Police arrested a second suspect, a  43-year-old man from Basildon, on June 8, in connection with the robbery. He was brought to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and bailed to return to police on July 3. Officers have now arrested a third man on suspicion of robbery, a 45-year-old man from Wanstead, London. He was detained on June 13 and has now been bailed to return to police on July 8.
