Annual Carols from Cambridge concert to be beamed into people’s living rooms

Usually at this time of year, tickets would be selling fast for Theatre Royal’s annual fundraising event at St Mary’s Church, in Bury St Edmunds – Carols from Cambridge.

Not to be beaten by Covid restrictions, this year they are bringing carols directly from Cambridge in the form of a Carol Concert recorded in the Selwyn Chapel this week.

A feast of familiar festive favourites, featuring arrangements by the choir’s conductor Sarah MacDonald, as well as music by Christmas legends John Rutter and David Willcocks, Selwyn College Cambridge is delighted to bring its annual concert for the Theatre Royal straight into your living rooms.

Filmed socially-distanced in the choir’s own college chapel, the recording can be purchased from Theatre Royal’s website from up to Thursday, December 31, for just £10.

Sarah MacDonald, choir conductor, was undeterred by the pandemic.

She said: “Our concert in Bury St Edmunds is always one of the highlights of the choir’s Christmas. We love singing in the gorgeous St Mary’s Church and our loyal audience is always so warm and appreciative. We are so sad not to be able to perform it live this year, but we are determined to keep in touch with our friends in Suffolk somehow. We hope you enjoy this, and we really look forward to seeing you again next year.”

The event is, once again, sponsored by Ellisons Solicitors, long-term supporter of Theatre Royal.
