Flood warnings issued after stretches of the River Lark reported to be rising

Some stretches of the River Lark, from Sicklesmere through to Mildenhall, Barton Mills, Bury St Edmunds towards Sicklesmere, have been rising since yesterday (Thursday, January 14) although they have been falling this afternoon.

It prompted a warning from the Environment Agency saying that flooding of roads and farmland is expected today. No rainfall is forecast today but further rain is possible tomorrow.

It’s expected that river levels will remain high over the next few days and the situation is being closely monitored.

The EA has advised people not to use low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

Nowton Road, in Bury St Edmunds, close to Nowton Park was water logged with reports of traffic at one stage being unable to get through.
