Man dies in car fire in Cavendish

A man has died following a car fire in Cavendish.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service and police were called at just after 7.30am yesterday, Saturday, March 6, to reports of a vehicle alight on The Green in the village.

The driver of the grey Hyundai IX35 estate car, a man in his 70’s, sadly died at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.

Two other cars, parked nearby, were damaged as a result of the fire. The road remains closed at this time whilst an investigation into the circumstances of the incident takes place.

Police investigating the circumstances of the incident confirmed today (Sunday, March 7) that they are not treating the death of the man as suspicious at this time.

A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.
