Interactive Christmas trail to be launched in Bury St Edmunds

People are being encouraged to step into Christmas in Bury St Edmunds with a new, fun and safe way to enjoy the town centre and the chance to win a share of £500 worth of prizes.

Our Bury St Edmunds, in partnership with HSBC UK, has put together a festive interactive trail around the historic centre with a “12 Days of Christmas” theme.  And remembering whether there are more swans a-swimming than geese a-laying isn’t necessary as all the answers can be found by taking part.

The trail launches on Thursday, November 18, the same day as the Christmas Lights Switch On event.

Participants need only their phone to either scan QR codes or send a text to participate. The trail is app-free without the need for players to download or sign up.

After visiting all 12 locations around the town participants can be automatically entered into a prize draw with a chance to win one of 14 Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Cards including a top prize worth £100.

Chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds Mark Cordell said:  “We’ve been organising themed trails in the town centre for many years and we know how much visitors and residents in the town absolutely love them.  Each one is always a little different but I really do think that this one is among the best yet. It will also give us a chance to show off some of the fabulous new Christmas Lights that we have invested in this year to really brighten up the town.”

HSBC UK local director Paul Sargent added: “HSBC UK is proud to be sponsoring this fantastic event, which is an innovative way of using new technology to bring the community together. There is so much to see in Bury St Edmunds, and when the Christmas lights have been switched on this will give families a further opportunity to explore the town and see what it has to offer. Hopefully it will mean more visitors into the centre which will be a positive thing for the local retailers as well.”

Interactive elements of the trail will include a greeting, the competition answer, a chance to find out about special Christmas activities in the town and – because it wouldn’t be Christmas without one – a traditional “cracker” joke.

The company behind the trail is Hello Lamp Post, which is working with Our Bury St Edmunds for the first time.

Head of Community Engagement Louise Barker added: “Walking around Bury St Edmunds when everywhere is decorated for Christmas is a joy and our tech trailblazers have had such fun coming up with this Festive Trail. Participants of all ages will love being able to interact with everyday items and Christmas lights.”

The Christmas Trail can be found in Bury St Edmunds until New Year’s Eve and the prize draw will be made in January.
