Our Bury St Edmunds is all revved up for Motorsport East event next month
Thousands of motorsports enthusiasts who enjoyed the first Our Bury St Edmunds Motorsport East event in 2021 are looking forward to the return of the free-admission day out next month.
The show of cars and sporting vehicles on Sunday, July 24, is expected to see more exhibits than last year’s inaugural event and will take place across the town centre.
It’s been curated by well-known local rallycross commentator and motorsport journalist Arthur Debenham and this year’s special guest is Laura Cooledge – a Women in Motorsport Ambassador and Club Development Officer at Anglia Motor Sport Club.
Motorsport East will feature around 65 competition vehicles with one of the highlights being former rallycross driver Brian Betteridge’s Ford Escort RS 1700T. The vehicle was built as a prototype and is believed to be the only running example of its type left in the world, having been lovingly restored after being brought to the UK from South Africa.
Chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds Mark Cordell said: “We were overwhelmed with the success of last year’s Motorsport East and the town centre was busy throughout the day. We are looking forward to seeing the Cornhill and Buttermarket transformed into a celebration of cars and motorsports. As with all Our Bury St Edmunds events though there will be much more to the day to enjoy – offering something for all the family.”
In addition to the sport vehicles and cherished collectors’ cars on show budding Lewis Hamiltons can test their skills in a racing car simulator which will be in Charter Square.
For those who prefer a slower pace bumper cars and other fairground rides will be on offer too. The attractions at the Arc Shopping Centre will be free of charge.
Motorsport East will support East Anglian Air Ambulance. Admission to the event is free and it runs from 10am to 4pm. For more information visit www.ourburystedmunds.com
