HOT SCORES at Suffolk Golf Captains Presidents Day

Association of Suffolk Golf Captains

PRESIDENTS DAY – Newton Green Golf Club – Friday 15th July 2022

The Association of Suffolk Golf Captains held the annual Presidents Day meeting on Friday 15th July 2022 hosted by Newton Green Golf Club. Again, of course, this being the summer of 2022 it was another very warm day so strange hats, sun screen and lots of fluid were the order of the day.

Guests were invited from all of the Associations opponents though not all were able to attend. Invitations went to Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, East Anglian Farmers, Hertfordshire, Suffolk Ladies, GCMA and Norfolk. At one stage there was a field of 60 but a few cancellations due to Covid reduced the field but overall it was a great turnout with past Captains attending from across the whole region

The course was in excellent condition considering the extended dry spell; the greens were in great shape and played very true which was reflected in some fabulous scoring.

Following a light lunch there was a “Shot Gun” start with the format four ball better ball stableford and considering players were only receiving 85% of their handicaps it made the scoring even more amazing.

Winners Trevor Mason and Steve Frost from Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club won on countback with 45 points from Allan Holmes and Ian Howlett from Rookery Park and in 3rd place was the former Association Secretary Paddy Lockwood and his partner Ian Woodhead from Newton Green also on 45 points

Winners of the guest prize were Chris Foster and David Price from Bedfordshire.

Nearest the Pin on the 6th was Steve Finch

Nearest The Pin on the 18th was Ian Howlett

Following and excellent meal the prizes were presented. President Garry Clark thanked everybody for supporting the event which as ever was a great success.

There was more than a little bit of sadness amongst the membership with regard to the outgoing Secretary.

President Garry thanked the former Secretary Paddy Lockwood for all his hard work in organising and galvanising the support for each of the Association events. Paddy said he had been in office for 10 years but nearly all members would agree it seemed very much longer. There was a rousing round of applause and cheers as Paddy eventually sat down.

Well done Paddy and thank you from all at the Association

What a great day and thank you to all staff at Newton Green Golf Club for contributing to another successful Suffolk Captains event.
