Fire crews from various stations across Suffolk have tackled a blaze on a 15-acre site in Rattlesden.

A total of 17 crews from Framlingham, Leiston, Needham Market, Stowmarket, Hadleigh, Long Melford, Clare, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds and Elmswell dealt with the stubble field fire in Stowmarket Road.

They were called yesterday, Thursday, August 11, at 2.48pm where they found the field “well alight” and spent most of the afternoon dealing with the incident.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said that crews worked hard to contain the fire and were “hotspotting and damping down”.

Meanwhile, police thanked the public for their patience while Stowmarket Road was closed as a result of the fire and added that the local farming community had helped to stop the fire.

Stowmarket Road was closed at the junctions with Lower Street and Back Road.

The road was reopened by 4.30pm and a “stop” call was made by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service at 4.34pm.
