Markets to finish early on Saturday due to extreme heat

West Suffolk Markets being held this Saturday, August 13, will be closing an hour early due to the expected extreme heat.

With temperatures forecast to exceed 30 degrees Celsius, the Met Office has issued an amber warning that includes health advice about avoiding over heating.

In light of this advice, the decision to finish the markets early has been made following discussions with traders, to allow them to pack down early and avoid the highest afternoon temperatures.

The markets will now finish at

  • Haverhill- 2pm
  • Newmarket- 2pm
  • Bury St Edmunds- 3pm

Brandon market, which is also held on Saturdays, finishes as usual at 1pm.

The advice, which applies to most of England and Wales, is available from Met Office – Heat-Health alert or NHS – Heatwave: how to cope in hot weather
