The 10th anniversary of Jane Hampton’s fundraising efforts are looming on the horizon.

Over that time she has amassed over £5,000 which has been donated to her chosen charity My WiSH.

Starting back in February 2013 she organised a dance at her local sports centre in Brandon which raised a total of £1,500. And since then she has managed to boost the funds of the hospital charity with a series of monthly bingo nights despite being interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now the latest event has seen her hand over £1,500 to My WiSH which has gone to the breast unit at the West Suffolk Hospital, as one of her family members is undergoing treatment.

The 63-year-old suffers from angina and was treated at the hospital in Bury St Edmunds prior to the new cardiac unit opening in December 2018.

That was what instigated her fundraising efforts as a way of thanking the dedicated and caring staff at the hospital. And the money she has raised has gone to help boost the charity’s Butterfly Appeal, the neonatal unit and the Every Heart Matters Cardiac Appeal.

Between 20 and 40 people attend the bingo sessions at the Brandon Royal British Legion Club every four weeks on a Friday.

Jane said: “My niece found out that she had breast cancer and she is now receiving chemotherapy so that’s why I decided to give the money to the breast unit. We could not do anything during Covid but we are now back up and running.”

She is helped by an array of people including her sister Vinny Novell who was cared for at the hospital for a heart complaint and calls out the numbers at the bingo sessions, Nicky Canney who sells the bingo books, plus her daughter Kelly Grimwood and Dee Porter.

Jane added: “A lot of the ladies who come to the sessions help bring prizes for the raffle and I want to keep raising money for My WiSH and we can target an area at the hospital that needs help.”

Sally Daniels, fundraising manager for My WiSH, thanked Jane and her helpers and added: “To hold one event for us is amazing but to continually put on events is just fantastic. The bingo nights give such pleasure and bring the community together while raising money for their local hospital so they really are making a difference to a lot of people”.
