Man arrested following assault in Newmarket
A man has been arrested following an assault in Newmarket.
The victim was injured when he was attacked in the doorway of an empty shop in the High Street on the afternoon of Monday, September 16, and officers detained a man in his 30s after stopping a car in the town.
The man was appearing in court this morning (Tuesday, September 17) in relation to other offences and has been bailed for suspected assault causing GBH while officers continue their investigation.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to facial wounds.
Inspector Tim Scott said: “This was a serious assault but I want to reassure the public that we quickly detained a suspect and that there is no wider threat to the community.”
Anyone who witnessed the assault, which took place between 3.05pm and 3.30pm on September 16, is asked to contact Suffolk Police quoting crime reference number 37/52810/24.
