Sausage festival to come to Newmarket next month

From royalty to the hard-working groom, Newmarket Sausages are every race-goer’s favourite and, to mark the long-tradition of the award-winning street food, the annual Newmarket Sausage Festival returns to the town for its third year running on Saturday, November 2.

The main events will take place from 10am to 2pm in Newmarket’s Market Square, running alongside the weekly Saturday market.

There will be opportunities to sample award-winning Newmarket Sausages, as well as participate in some fun-themed activities and competitions for all the family.

The festival is again sponsored by both types of Newmarket Sausage – Musk’s and Powters. As well as free tastings, there will be the chance to try a tasty sausage casserole, courtesy of the chefs at the Heath Court Hotel. Take home a recipe card and don’t miss the chance to win all the ingredients on the free tombola.

New for this year, there will be a Best Dressed Sausage Dog competition at 11am, where owners are encouraged to bring their sausage dog along in their best outfit, or alternatively bring any breed of dog along in a sausage outfit to be in with a chance of winning a goody bag of prizes.

Another new addition for 2024 is the “Whack a Sausage” game which will provide fun for all the family.

Other favourites that make a return include the popular sausage pan race, a fiercely competitive race aimed at younger visitors, presided over by the festival’s favourite themed character, Mr Sausage.

Local cafes and restaurants will also be supporting the festival during the preceding week, adding specially created sausage dishes to their menus. This means that avid sausage fans will be able to dine out on a different sausage dish every day of the week.

Entry to the Festival is free and for more information visit Discover Newmarket at www.discovernewmarket.co.uk or telephone 01638 501122.
