American soul sensation Jarrod Lawson coming to The Apex

Jarrod Lawson (pictured above) won Soul Artist Of The Year at the Jazz FM Awards, has been dubbed “the hottest talent to hit soul music in at least 10 years” by Echoes magazine and is due to perform at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, next month.

With comparisons to icons like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, Jarrod’s music blends elements of jazz, soul, funk, and gospel in a way that has resonated with audiences around the globe.

Ever since his debut album in 2014, the smoky-voiced singer-songwriter and pianist has been sending positive ripples around the globe.

He has completed seven successful international tours, with highlights including Rotterdam’s North Sea Jazz and the UK’s Love Supreme festivals.

Following his Ronnie Scott’s gig in 2014, Jazzwise wrote: “With the deafening buzz surrounding this gig, Lawson has to show and prove, and he does so and then some, pretty much from the downbeat”.

Described by the London Evening Standard as “the blue-eyed soul boy of jazz”, Lawson followed his debut album with a limited-edition vinyl EP “Jarrod Lawson At The BBC”, recorded at London’s historic BBC Maida Vale studios and broadcast on the Gilles Peterson Show.

In late 2022, Jarrod had the biggest, and most unexpected, thrill of his music career.

He had just received a glowing endorsement in print from Michelle Obama, who was asked by Entertainment Weekly who she was listening to and, after mentioning Beyonce’s “Renaissance” album, added: “There’s this young jazz, blue-eyed soul kid Jarrod Lawson that I’m loving….”

Critics and fans alike have heaped praise on Lawson, not only for his virtuosic talents but for the deep emotional connection and thought-provoking themes in his songwriting.

His live performances captivate audiences with his stunning musicianship and soul-stirring vocals.

Jarrod Lawson plays at The Apex on Monday, December 2, at 7.30pm. See www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758000 for more information or to book tickets.
