A Sudbury primary school has “improved significantly” across all areas according to Ofsted inspectors.

The pupils’ love of Woodhall Primary School, the strength of the curriculum and high expectations around behaviour were all praised following the two-day inspection.

Executive headteacher Lisa Tweed said she was delighted that the report was such a strong reflection on the school.

She added: “It is a wonderful report that we are really proud of. It is also an amazing achievement that we were given no action steps to improve on.

“The report is a credit to all – the staff, pupils and parents and we would like to thank everyone for their continued support.”

The support offered to pupils was a particular highlight with the report stating: “Staff have the highest expectations of all pupils’ behaviour.

“As a result, pupils behave extremely well and have highly respectful, mutually supportive relationships. There are no limits at Woodhall. The school has lofty ambitions for all.

“Pupils ‘shine’ and always do their best. They work hard, attend to their learning and achieve highly.”

Inspectors described the school’s curriculum as “highly aspirational” from early years onwards while staff have strong knowledge of the curriculum.

The report added: “Children begin to learn to read as soon as they start school in the Nursery Year.

“Across the school, pupils learn to love and appreciate the power of great stories and information texts. Staff teach reading with confidence. Pupils enjoy reading and become confident, independent and fluent readers.

“The school has very high expectations of pupils’ behaviour, attitudes and learning. These expectations are embedded across the school.

“Pupils have highly positive attitudes and can confidently recall and explain their learning.”

Attendance, a comprehensive personal development offer and the fact SEND pupils learn the same aspirational curriculum as their friends was also praised while pupils were also said to benefit from an “extremely wide range of opportunities” which included contributing to the school’s ‘solution circle’.

While it was an ungraded Section 8 inspection, the report concluded that Woodhall had improved significantly across all areas since the last full inspection in 2020 when it was graded as Good.
