Award-winning TV chef will star at Food & Drink Festival in August

An ambassador for Chinese cooking with numerous TV shows and cookery books to her name will make her first appearance at the Our Bury St Edmunds Food & Drink Festival this summer.

Ching-He Huang MBE (pictured above) has hosted “Chinese Food Made Easy” for the BBC as well as “Exploring China – A Culinary Adventure” with Ken Hom and participated in many other favourites including “Saturday Kitchen”.

Ching will demonstrate her trademark “minimum fuss, maximum flavour” ethos in the Chefs on Stage Cookery Theatre on Bank Holiday Monday (August 25), which is the second day of the free-admission event.

She’ll host three demonstrations with chefs from some of the town’s most popular establishments also taking to the stage across the two day event.

Among those set to appear on the Sunday are festival veteran Zack Deakins who is chef-patron of 1921 on Angel Hill and the chefs from Churchgate Street’s new fine dining restaurant Bellota.

Many other town centre businesses will be participating in the event either with a stall or on the stage.

The Angel Hotel, Lotties Waffles, Beautiful Beers, Wine Cellar and Peck are just some of those who’ll be tempting the tastebuds of visitors.

Across the festival there will be stalls selling international cuisine including Albanian and Greek, artisan cheeses and a farmers’ market selling local produce.

Even pets can find a tasty treat by visiting stalls from Norfolk Doggy Deli or Untamed cat food.

The Our Bury St Edmunds Food & Drink Festival is organised by the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation for the town.

Its chief executive Mark Cordell said: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming Ching-He Huang to Suffolk’s foodie capital.

“Her approach is to show that Chinese cooking need not be complicated or time-consuming and it’ll be fabulous to find out about her delicious recipes in our theatre kitchen.

“We’ve once again had a huge amount of interest from BID member businesses to take part in the event as well and there will be lots of our favourite regular festival stalls returning.

“With the launch of our foodie tours in the town this summer, the Our Bury St Edmunds Food & Drink Festival is something no foodie should want to miss.”

The festival offers a number of other attractions for all the family including mini-golf, a helter-skelter and fairground rides.
