Members of the Bury Abbey Rotary Club have paid a visit to the disability resource centre at the West Suffolk Hospital to view the unit and items purchased after £3,200 was raised from a charity auction the club organised.

The money has been used by clinical specialist neurology physiotherapist Claudia Olhero and will be for patients with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions such as strokes, spinal injuries, MS, neuropathies and FND (functional neurological disorder).

It includes a Lasercane and U Step walker, which have a laser beam to help measure gait; a Taurus which aids patients with walking and has proved invaluable to staff at the centre.

Other pieces included a wobble board and silicone hand strengthening tools.

Jill Badman, who was the President of the club at the time of the auction held last November, chose My WiSH as the headline charity for the auction. The charity supports the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and includes the West Suffolk Hospital as well as Newmarket Hospital and community services,

She said: “It was fascinating to see the variety of equipment, not supplied by the NHS, that the specialist neuro team have purchased with our donation. They told us that they were invaluable in helping to assess and treat patients and gave us a demonstration of how it all works.”

Sally Daniels, fundraising manager for My WiSH, said: “It was lovely to be able to show Jill and her fellow Rotary members the difference they have made. These items help patients so much with their rehabilitation sessions and I know Claudia and Beckie want to extend their thanks too to everyone involved in the auction.”
