Make a will and help St Nicholas Hospice Care during Wills Weeks
A local hospice’s Wills Weeks campaign, which starts next month, will see solicitors prepare or update wills in return for a suitable donation to the charity.
Solicitors from firms in Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Haverhill, Thetford, Stowmarket and Sudbury have signed up to take part in the event and will be participating for specific weeks throughout June and beyond.
Starting on Monday, June 4, rather than charging a fee for the service, solicitors will ask for a donation to St Nicholas Hospice Care of an amount, which represents a discount from their usual costs.
During the hospice’s 2017 Wills Weeks campaign, 229 wills were completed raising almost £40,000 for the charity, which cares for those with long-term and life-threatening illnesses.
Nick Duncan, the charity’s legacy officer, said: “Everyone needs a will; it doesn’t matter where you are on life’s journey. Many people do not realise how the law can badly disadvantage their loved ones in certain circumstances if they don’t leave a will – nor that certain life events can invalidate a previously valid will.
“Don’t put off making a will. Getting a will drafted protects your family and gives everyone peace of mind, while your donation will ensure that the hospice can continue to offer its vital services.”
Gifts left in people’s wills play an increasingly important role in helping the hospice to raise the funds it needs to continue its work.
“If more people were to leave us even a small gift in their will, it would enable us to carry on caring for our community for generations to come,” Nick added.
Anyone without a will, or with one which needs updating, is encouraged to make an appointment.
