Five local bands to be showcased in The 545 at The Apex
Hot on the heels of the sold-out BurySOUND 20th anniversary final, The 545 (five bands for £5) returns to The Apex, on Friday, June 8.
The event gives up-and-coming artists from the East Anglian music scene the opportunity to perform at the venue in Bury St Edmunds and, for most of them, gain their first experience of the professional music industry.
The headline act this month are Amethysts, aka Clarice and Simon who were born in early March (Pisces), their birthstone is Amethyst. They love Gin, Faux Fur and have a fetish for old synthesisers. Amethysts are an ambient pop duo from the depths of the East Anglian countryside, who write, record and co-produce all of their own music. Previous singles have racked up almost a million streams online and had radio plays on BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music.
They’re joined by The Catch, a three piece indie rock band comprising lead vocalist and drummer Adam Levey alongside guitarist Eddie Allen and bassist Nyan Horne. BBC Introducing Suffolk are big fans. Their music influences include Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters and Royal Blood.
Me & The Moon formed in the summer of 2015, the band embody those long, warm, hazy days of endless opportunity; beautifully pairing youthful innocence with apathy and worldliness. Consisting of Tamara Grzegorzek (vocals), Jonny Elstone (guitar) and Alex Archer (drums) they have already found fans from the indie scene including notable support slots for Marika Hackman, Flyte and Marsicans.
Cambridgeshire’s Among The Citizens are fast becoming a hotly tipped new act from the East of England following the release of their debut EP ‘Unlearn You’ in 2017. Tracks from the EP have been played by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music. The band take varied influences from artists such as The Cure and Echo & The Bunnymen, with dreamy infectious chorus guitar, as well as contemporary bands such as JAWS, with their lush and memorable synthesiser and guitar melodies.
Finally, Suffolk upstarts The Getaway complete the line-up. This indie quartet were one of the stand out acts to participate in the heats of the 20th anniversary BurySOUND competition earlier this year. This band highlights the vibrant music scene here in West Suffolk.
