Pedal power raises funds for St Nicholas Hospice

A Bury cyclist climbed into the saddle and used his pedal power to raise thousands for a local hospice close to his heart.

Jako Robbertse, joined by family and friends, cycled from John O Groats to Land’s End in memory of his late wife Juannez Robbertse, who was cared for by St Nicholas Hospice Care.

The 874-mile cycle ride from the northern most point of Scotland to the most southern point of England, took 14 days to complete and raised £6,300 for the hospice that supports people living with caring, dying and bereavement in West Suffolk and Thetford.

Jako said: “I decided to raise money for the hospice, as an appreciative thank you for all the care and support they gave me during my wife Juannez’s longstanding battle with cancer.”

Charlie De Moore, events fundraiser, St Nicholas Hospice Care, said: “We are so grateful to Jako and his family and friends for taking on this mammoth cycling challenge. As a local charity we rely on the generosity of our local community and businesses and the funds raised by this event will help us continue to fund the care and support we provide to local people.”
