A hotel which has been through the toughest three months in its 28-year history has won an award for the family values that have pulled it through as it makes plans to re-open in just over a week’s time.

Ufford Park Hotel, Golf and Spa was named Family Business of the Year at the Family Business United Awards 2020 during a virtual award ceremony celebrating hundreds of family business across the UK.

Managing director Tarnia Robertson said the award was a huge boost at a time when they needed it most.

“The last few months have been extremely tough – the toughest three months we have ever experienced,” she said. “In fact, this is the first time in the last three decades that we have had to stop trading and close the doors to customers and members and like many businesses in the hospitality industry, this has been tough.

“To be recognised for this award after such a difficult time for our staff is amazing. We believe it is our family values and ethos that has seen us through – we have all pulled together to get through and we are a supportive team with a lot of love for this business and all it represents.”

Tarnia took over the running of the hotel from her parents in 2015 and her children have now taken on casual roles in the business, making them the third generation to be involved in Ufford Park.

She said: “We have worked very hard to combine the traditional elements of our business with modernising, which has future proofed it. Part of this has included extensive refurbishments while maintaining our focus on customer care that my parents have always held dear.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ufford Park has been closed to the public since March 24 but is  reopening its doors to the public on Friday, July 10.
