A schoolboy is celebrating after his artwork depicting his town at Christmas was chosen for a top award.
In keeping with tradition, local students were asked to design this year’s Christmas card sent out by Sudbury mayor Sue Ayres.
Thomas Gainsborough School student Matthew Dix came out on top and will now see his festive design sent to local dignitaries and even Her Majesty The Queen.
Year 8 pupil Matthew, who lives in Bures, said: “I was very happy to win the competition. I really enjoy art and I wanted to show Sudbury as a lovely place to go at Christmas.”
Mrs Ayres said she was hugely impressed by the standard of entries, which also included students from Ormiston Sudbury Academy.
She said: “Matthew got every aspect of Christmas and what we were looking for in his design. The standard was extremely high and I would like to congratulate and thank everyone who took part.”
Other finalists from Thomas Gainsborough School were Honey Kavanagh, Isabelle Davie, Grace Hiskett and Lily Hollinsworth.
School art teacher Angela Bowman, who oversaw the TGS entries, said: “We are always very proud of the high level of artwork at the school and the students have once again excelled themselves.
“We would like to thank Jason Brown and The Works for donating prizes and Indigo Ross for printing the cards.”
