A fang-tastic and free family activity launches in Bury St Edmunds on Friday – with the hocus-focus on fun rather than fright in the build up to Halloween.
The LoyalFree app team, in partnership with Our Bury St Edmunds, have created a “spooktacular” new augmented reality trail launching in Bury St Edmunds town centre on Friday, October 14, and running until Halloween itself – October 31. It’s the first time augmented reality has been used in this way in the town centre.
The trail tells the story of the forgetful witch Wanda and her feline familiar Wicca. Wicca is missing and to find her Wanda must create a potion – but Wanda’s potion cupboard is bare!
This free interactive activity invites participants to journey around the trail, checking in at each location to reveal and collect the potion ingredients. As you follow the trail, scanning the QR codes at each spooky location, you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win one of three £75 Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Cards. The more QR codes scanned, the more chances of winning.
The trail brings the story to life with a mixture of video and augmented reality. Join in and expect to see floating potion ingredients appear magically in front of you when using a smartphone camera.
Participants can also share their frightening photos on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter and use the hashtag #LFHALLOWEENHUNT for a chance to be entered into an additional national competition to win a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds Live Wireless Earphones.
Our Bury St Edmunds marketing officer Mike Kirkham said: “This is completely different to some of our other trails that have always been enjoyed by hundreds of families. This free entry augmented reality trail is much more treat than trick and you don’t have to wait till after dark to take part. It’s a wicked way to explore historic Bury St Edmunds with a chance to win an Our Bury St Edmunds gift card.”
LoyalFree’s partnerships manager Sophie Carrick added: “LoyalFree is thrilled to be rolling out our first augmented reality trail. The technology is cutting edge and offers a tremendous opportunity for local promotion. The trails are free of charge and represent a great free day out for families. We would love to see residents and visitors enjoying the trail and perhaps discovering businesses not previously visited, while exploring the area.”
Taking part in the trail is easy. Simply download the LoyalFree app for free and head to the trails section for more information.
