The Aquarius Singers will perform their first Christmas concert with director Nicholas Sheehan at All Saints Church, in Park Road, Bury St Edmunds, on Sunday, December 11.

The 55-strong ladies’ choir will be raising funds for Bury St Edmunds Women’s Aid, a charity close to the choir members’ hearts, that runs the Bury Refuge for families affected by domestic abuse.

In the past 12 years, the Christmas concerts and sales of Aquarius Christmas cards have raised thousands of pounds for this local good cause.

Nicholas Sheehan joined the choir in February this year as its first male music director.

He said: “The music we are performing in our concert encapsulates the warmth of the Christmas season, through a range of musical genres and styles.”

The singers will be accompanied by Jill Garrett on the piano with choir members providing violin and cello accompaniment on two separate pieces.

The programme includes Christmas songs including pieces by John Rutter, Benjamin Britten and Will Todd with a few “not so Christmassy songs” thrown into the mix.

Of the concert, which is at 7pm, Women’s Aid have said: “Everyone at the refuge, both new and old, offer our heartfelt thanks for the support of The Aquarius Singers, who bring Christmas joy, not only to the audience but the families we support through our work at Women’s Aid.”

The ticket price of £10 includes refreshments and Christmas punch and are available from Balaam’s Music, in Risbygate Street, or on the door. There will also be a raffle.
